The Black War is the bloodiest chapter in the history of Van Diemen’s Land, now Tasmania. The war lasted from 1824 (1826, according to some historians) to 1832 and was punctuated by three main events.
Tasmania was originally discovered by the Dutch discoverer Abel Tasman in 1642. He named this island, "Anthoonij Van Diemens Landt". Later the British called it Van Damien's Land.
