Public transport doesn't go up here but there are some tours you can do that include going up here and they take you. Just search Te Mata Peak tours on google and they will come up.

Maybe a bit more if you have some among you sort of side-tracking off the trail from time to time - I would suggest that you take a snack and a wine as well - on a nice day the place just lends itself to a peaceful stop with refreshments while the kids run around nice and safe
