I see some people have said the train runs during a new moon, for no light pollution, but it actually runs each Friday from May-August. Can someone clarify that? If the moon is full or high in the sky, does it affect the viewing in the national park?

They offer train rides every day. They do run a star train on some Friday nights and the park rangers are at the end of the run with telescopes for star gazing. It's around the new moon, not on the new moon as a new moon is not always on Friday. I think it run through Sept but call to verify that. Moon light does affect the viewing if it's up in the sky. Check the moon rise time if that concerns you. It is still awesome as the sky is so dark out there in the basin.
